The revolution is here! Those clever Italians have come up with the invention to rival all inventions - a machine that can produce and deliver delicious pizza in three minutes. It will make its debut throughout humdrum offices and factories across Italy starting next week.
The highly intelligent machine is designed in a tomato red shade and is called Let’s Pizza - and no it is not heating up ready made processed rubbish - it makes the real deal from scratch. A little window to its soul lets hungry pizza lovers see the whole process - from the kneading of the dough, the forming of the base, the spreading of the tomato sauce, the sprinkling of the toppings to the final baking step under infra-red rays.
It was a tricky job to pull off however - Italians regard pizza making a skilled and respectable job and care greatly about the origins of their food - but surprisingly they have so far seemed open to the idea of a vending machine lunch.
In fact machines that produce worthy cups of steaming hot cappuccino, caffe machiato et al have become huge in the country - so much so that recently a television comedy series used the machine as its set for the whole show. Indeed, Italy is in possession of more food vending machines than elsewhere throughout Europe - and the majority of them make coffee.
The inventor genius behind Let’s Pizza - Claudio Torghele - is expecting a win fall with the machine in line with the success of the popular coffee machines. “This is not just a vending machine, it’s a mini-pizzeria. With the windows where you can watch the pizza being made, kids love it.”
Of course, those who actually lovingly prepare pizza for a living are scornful of the machine’s worth, but it is unlikely it will affect the traditional art of the pizzeria, as the coffee machine craze has had little effect on the popularity of Italy’s many espresso bars. And no matter how clever the machine is and all it can do - it cannot compare to the sweet aroma of the wood-burning oven.
