News has been revealed today, of a baby girl, who was born two days after her mother - an ice-skating coach - died from a brain haemorrhage.

The woman, Jayne Soliman, 41 was taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital, but she had suffered too much damage and was declared brain dead. However, doctors worked round the clock to keep her heart beating so that they could deliver her unborn baby, Aya Jayne, by caesarean section.

Mrs Soliman’s club members talked of their “immense sadness” and “great regret” about her death, but said that Aya Jayne was “doing well.”

The Bracknell Ice Skating Club website published a statement saying, “It is with great regret and immense sadness that we have to inform you that coach Jayne Soliman died suddenly on Wednesday afternoon as a result of a brain haemorrhage.”

The statement continued, “The baby is very small but doing well. Our prayers are with her.”

Mrs Soliman was a professional skater and had taken part in major international galas. She was only 25 weeks pregnant when she died, after complaining of a headache and going to bed.

She was transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital but doctors could not save her due to the extent of the damage to her brain and she was pronounced dead at 8pm.

The haemorrhage occurred after an aggressive tumour hit a major blood vessel, causing the skater to collapse, doctors reported.

However, hope remained that her unborn child could be saved.

Mrs Soliman was injected with massive amounts of steroids to aid the development of the baby’s lungs, and after 48 hours she gave birth to little Aya Jayne, who weighed just two pounds, one and a half ounces.

Her friend, David Phillips was with her in her last moments. He told the Southern Daily Echo, “To Jayne, becoming a mother was the best thing in the world that could have happened to her.”

Club secretary Edna Boden paid tribute to her friend, saying, “It is such terrible news and a sad loss to the skating community.

“She was a long-standing and very popular member of the club.

“She took part in all the shows. We are absolute devastated. But it’s such good news about her daughter.”

The baby, Aya Jayne was moved to the neo-natal intensive care unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and is being carefully monitored by doctors due to her tiny size.

The funeral for Mrs Soliman took place at the weekend in the Jamia Masjid mosque in Reading.
