Hands up if you love sitting in a relaxed beer garden sipping on a refreshing drink in the height of British summer. Yep, me to, so here’s a short guide to what wine’s you should enjoy this summer (in moderation of course).

A perfectly chilled glass of white wine will help refresh you on a hot day in a way that red just can’t. Not all whites are great though, here’s three of the best to get you started;

Albarino: A popular wine from Galicia in Northwest Spain; its lemony, floral character makes it a great summer drink, and is also very nice with a range of seafood, from oysters to Galician-style grilled octopus.

Riesling: This wine makes a great accompaniment to Thai or Vietnamese food. With flavours of green apple and citrus, it comes in a variety of styles from very dry to very sweet. We recommend a quite dry style from Germany, Austria or Australia’s Clare Valley

Sauvignon Blanc: With the best examples of this gooseberry, grass and green herbs drink coming from France, New Zealand and South Africa, it makes a great complement to a summer salad, asparagus and goat’s cheese, as well as fish dishes.

 Rose wines are also great at this time of year. It’s possible to get a really nice rose to complement yor meal but equally as simple to pick up bad one.
You should be prepared to spend as much money as you would on a good white or red wine. You should avoid the cheap stuff.

Rose must be served cold. Rose wine is made in the same way that white wine is, but is made from red grapes. It goes with the same food styles as white wine, but can be even more versatile.

Rose can be drunk with a wide range of dishes, from spicy bouillabaisse to garlicky grilled prawns and paella - particularly in the summer months.
The key to its versatility is that it’s uncomplicated and easy-drinking. It’s as good with, say, barbecued chicken or burger as it is with more sophisticated dishes.
