A report which has been released this week shows that the keyboard on your computer may be dirtier than a lavatory seat when it comes to the amount of bacteria it holds. While you may find it hard to believe, a “dirty” keyboard can actually lead to an array of illnesses and health conditions for the user. So how are so many keyboards so dirty?

There are a number of ways in which your keyboard may become so dirty, which include :-

Eating Food At Your Desk

By eating food at your desk next to your computer it is very easy for small particles of food to drop in between the keys and rest within the keyboard. As these food particles waste away they can leave a massive trail of bacteria.

Unwashed Hands Spread Disease

Even though we have all been warned of the dangers, many people still do not wash their hands after going to the toilet, or in other situations where they may come into contact with forms of bacteria. By not washing your hands you are increasing the risk of “infecting” your keyboard, which can in turn put you at risk.

Retaining A Keyboard For Too Long

Just like you would replace anything else which was broken or unclean, too many people will retain the same keyboard for too long, literally putting their health at risk. Keyboards will retain dog hairs, bits of food, decaying matter and many other potential health hazards.

What can you do?

The only answer is to ensure that your keyboard is regularly cleaned with one of the many disinfectant clothes which are on the market. It would also be sensible to actually “hoover” your keyboard to ensure that all of the small peices of matter lodged behind the keys are removed, taking away a great deal of the health risk.
