Yes its true!
British researchers are looking to employ the services of chocolate lovers to see what affect eating chocolate has on the number of instances of heart disease in the UK. However, this is a serious research program with tests showing that a number of compounds which are present in chocolate have been shown to reduce heart disease.
Are you a plain chocolate or a dark chocolate lover?
If you are a plain chocolate lover then you may be out of luck in your quest to guzzle as many chocolate bars down as you can. Recent research has shown that dark chocolate seems to lower blood pressure, improve the receptiveness of blood vessels and reduce the risk of heart disease. The affects of plain chocolate have not really been mentioned but there do still appear to be some benefits.
The program will start in June and the researchers are currently looking to sign up 150 ladies who have gone through the menopause and have type 2 diabetes. This is because these are the type of “patients” which carry a higher than normal degree of risk of heart disease, and it should be easier to recognise any significant changes.
Over the years we have heard many rumours and comments regarding unhealthy foods with many people actually missing the potential health benefits of naturally occurring ingredients such as those found in chocolate. Very often the potential positive affects are masked by the fat, sugar and additives which are very common today.
Too often we hear the doom and gloom mongers warning us that certain foods will result in an increased risk of condition A or condition B, but we never seem to hear any good news. Perhaps after this latest research, chocolate lovers out there may be in a position to justify those cravings on the grounds of health!
